Welcome, Federation Interns!

We welcome the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s 2015 Summer Interns! Get to know the group of college students who will be spending their summer at the Federation with these short bios:

Sarah Arth

Sarah will be our Security Intern this summer, reporting to our Director of Community Security, Jim Hartnett. Sarah is currently a student at Mercyhurst University, studying for her MS in Applied Intelligence. She has a BA in Anthropology from Cleveland State University, and was a Cum Laude and University Scholar of Anthropology at CSU. In addition to English, Sarah speaks, Arabic, Hindi and French. Sarah is also working for the U.S. Intelligence Advances Research Projects Activity department, on "The Good Judgment Project" where she utilizes predictive modeling to forecast global events. She sees this internship as a good application of her undergraduate degree, in anthropology, in terms of the security threat to the Jewish community.

Claire Levin

Claire will be our Growing Jewish Cleveland Intern this summer, reporting to Kelly Rubanenko, Director of Growing Jewish Cleveland & Young Family Outreach. Claire is currently a Junior at The Ohio State University studying for her BA in Public Affairs, with a specialization in Community Organization and Civic Engagement and Nonprofit Management. Claire also works as a Community Engagement Intern at Global Gifts, where she works to improve community engagement through the coordination of five events throughout the spring and builds a social media presence. Claire is also the Social Media Chair for her sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, and received the 1st place award in social media at the AEPhi National Convention in 2014. Claire went on Onward Israel last summer and worked as a Fundraising and Marketing Associate at Tsevet Lohamim. While in high school, Claire brought Kick-It for Kids Cancer to Shaker Heights, which ended up being one of the most diverse events at the school.

Daniel Pearlman

Daniel will be our International, Community and Government Relations Intern this summer, reporting to Jessica Cohen, Director of Community Relations. Daniel is a Junior at the University of Michigan, studying for his BA in Political Science and Judaic Studies, and a minor in Art History. Daniel studied Japanese Art History in Kyoto, Japan in May 2014 and studied architecture, history and culture in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel in May-June 2013. Daniel currently works as a Campus Intern for The David Project, where he strives to build relationships with student leaders from various communities; he also traveled to Israel on the David Project's Israel Uncovered trip, representing student leaders nationwide. Daniel was the Social Media Fellow for Cleveland Onward Israel last summer and worked for the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, researching and presenting his findings on the economics of Water and Climate Change in the Middle East. Daniel is active in the HaYerukim Environmentalist Group at Michigan Hillel, WolvPac (AIPAC at Michigan), the American Movement for Israel, the Conference on the Holocaust, University of Michigan's Squirrel Feeding Club, and the Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan.

Nicolle Simonovic

Nicolle will be our Development/HRD Intern this summer, reporting to Lisa Hacker, Director of Women’s Philanthropy. Nicolle is a rising Senior at John Carroll University, studying for her BS in Psychology. Nicolle is also the John Carroll Hillel President, and a student representative for the Cleveland Hillel Foundation Board of Directors. Nicolle is also a Leadership Scholar and part of the Psi Chi Honor Society. Nicolle is very interested in leadership skill development and has taken several courses, through her Leadership Scholars program on Leadership in Society. As a high school student at Fuchs Mizrachi, Nicolle was very active in understanding the role Federation plays in supporting the school and assist with the Federation's annual Campaign for Jewish Needs at Super Sunday.

Isabella Baden

Isabella will be our Planning Intern this summer, reporting to Dayan Gross, Assistant Vice President for Community Development, Community Planning & Allocations. Isabella is a Sophomore at Kent State University, studying for her BS in Nursing. She is on the Kent State Diversity Council for the College of Nursing as the leader of the Scholarship and Fundraising Committee. She is proficient in American Sign Language. Isabella is focusing her nursing studies on elderly care and dementia and has completed research recently on the difficulties in communication with Alzheimer's patients for caregivers, and how this difficulty affects the stress level of the caregivers.
